How To Detect if Your Content Was Plagiarized …

jeonjagiya:

In light of recent events where several fanfics were plagiarized, I thought it would be a good idea to bring people’s attention to the magic of Google Alerts. Many of us have already changed our HTML to disable right-click and highlighting, but this would be an additional step to a) further protect original content, and b) see who else may have uploaded it elsewhere (since it’s hard to catch every violation). It’s like Googling your own stuff, except Google does it for you and tells you if it found anything.

To use Google Alerts:

  1. Go to Google Alerts.
  2. In the “Create an alert about…” box, enter a phrase or sentence from your original content. Make sure to include quotation marks around your entry to limit the results to your specific content. I recommend using sentences unique to your story.
  3. In the “Show options” drop-down menu, you can

further customize your alert. This includes telling Google how often you want to be emailed of any results. I recommend changing the “How often” option to “As-it-happens“ and changing the “How many” option to “All results.”

  4. Click the Create Alert button.
  5. Sit back as Google hunts down anyone who took your hard work!

Hope this helps!

Update: The 5 FCC commissioners will be deciding the future of the internet.
Two of them have come out as No votes on repealing net neutrality.
Chairman Pai, Trump’s appointed hatchet man will vote YES.
We need only convince ONE of the other members to flip to a No vote to save Net Neutrality.
Here are the e-mail addresses of the remaining commissioners. Blow up their inboxes!
• Michael O’Reilly – Mike.OReilly@fcc.gov
• Brendan Carr – Brendan.Carr@fcc.gov
Here is a sample body of an email, please feel free to use it or generate your own content:
Subject: Keep Net Neutrality!
Hello,
I believe in and support Net Neutrality.
The internet should be an open platform where anyone can have total access to its resources. No cable company or internet provider has the right to interfere with what we do online. The internet is as essential as water, electricity, or phone service in the 21st century. A free and open internet is also fundamental to freedom of speech and expression in the 21st century.
If internet service providers are allowed to block or throttle sites, or create paid prioritization schemes, they will essentially be in charge of the internet. This would be a huge step in the wrong direction. Bad for citizens, bad for the economy overall and bad for the USA.
Sincerely,
*Copy & Paste and Pass it on.
